Lab Safety

Is this safe procedure?

Before we can continue on with our investigation of Chemistry, we need to review two major topics.

  • The Scientific Method
  • Lab Safety

We reviewed the scientific method last class with the “string thing” today we will be investigating lab safety. We will review rules and expectations of the laboratory, go over some scenarios, and sign our lab safety contract. The information will be provided to you and, as always, is available on the ‘Semester 1 Docs’ page.

Reminders

Your “Class Procedures Activity” we started Thursday is due on Monday. This will be your first grade.
Your Lab Safety Quiz will be Monday. You must pass before you can participate in Labs.
Your Lab Safety Contract will need to be signed by you and a parent and returned by Monday.

It’s about to go down…

  • Pens/Pencils
  • 3-ring Binder
  • Colored Pencils/ Marker
  • Paper
  • Calculator
  • A Positive Attitude
  • A Willingness to Learn

New Documents Page Added

I have added a Semester 1 Documents page to the blog in the hopes that I will be able to post important documents, handouts, and other class related material there. As of right now I am still in the “tinkering” stages of figuring out how Dropbox and Google Docs work. Since I am still working on mastering this process (and it’s the first time I’ve done something like this) I’m asking those of you using the page to please be patient and if you have comments or suggestions I’d love to hear from you.

Less Than a Month

Believe it or not we’re less than a month away from the beginning of a new school year. Please, try to contain your excitement… Seriously though, I’ve spent some choice moments over the last month beginning to put together some reference materials, activities, and labs to follow the curriculum map Mr. Fogel and I created at the end of May. Over the next month we’ll solidify our plans, look for technology to include, and start building some momentum to carry us through the first few weeks of August. We’ll see you then.
